In 1859 an agricultural implement company, housed in a small blacksmith shop, was started in West Bend, Wisconsin USA. From these humble beginnings, GEHL Company has grown to be a major force in the compact equipment industry worldwide with one of the world’s largest range of Skid Steer Loaders on the market today.
Today in Australia the next chapter in The Gehl Companies 150 year history is being written with the appointment of Manitou Australia as the national importer of Gehl products.
Manitou Australia is the Australian subsidiary of Manitou BF, Ancenis, France the world’s leading manufacturer of rough terrain material handling equipment. Manitou BF is also the parent company of Gehl Company following the acquisition of Gehl Company by Manitou BF, in October 2008.
Stuart Walker, General Manager, Manitou Australia commented “The appointed of Manitou Australia on the surface is a logical development for the Gehl Company being a subsidiary of Manitou BF as is Manitou Australia, however since the acquisition of the Gehl Company Manitou Australia has been in discussions with the Gehl Company to ensure that each party showed the same long term growth plans, but even more importantly we needed to ensure that both companies showed a common philosophy and goals in customer support.
Manitou Australia has a strong independent dealer network across metropolitan and regional Australia and our goal is to offer exceptional customer service.”
“Manitou Australia’s independent network is the envy of our industry, with partnerships dating over 25 years we have a knowledge base second to none on our field.”
Stuart Walker also commented “From the first day I joined Manitou it was clear that Manitou’s philosophy is to work with a strong dedicated dealer network to ensure that customer’s expectations are met on a local basis our business is after all, all about people and our number one asset our customers. It was also clear to me that the Gehl Company holds the same values, so today the appointment of Manitou Australia as the Gehl Companies representative in Australia is much more than a marriage of convenience it is a true partnership. Who would have thought the French and the Americans finally agree on something!!”
The Gehl Company has been producing Skid Steer Loaders since 1973 and today the Gehl range of Skid Steer Loaders boast rated capacities up to 1747kg with the 99H.P. model 7810E, the world’s largest Skid Steer Loader, back to Gehl’s latest offering the 1640E with width of 900mm and capacity of 385kg.
In Australia the Gehl Company has established a reputation of having one of the highest quality Skid Steer Loaders in the Australian market and with the appointment of Manitou Australia the Gehl Company has the backing to give a quality product quality customer support.

MANITOU is expanding its series of internal combustion articulated platforms and providing working heights which reach up to 20 metres.
MANITOU’s expertise:
This most recent addition to the family of articulated platforms from the MANIACCESS range combines all the characteristics which made the ATJ series such a great success:
• Excellent traction and power, due to the 4 wheel drive and manoeuvrability of the 3 steering modes.
• The ability to carry out 4 simultaneous movements for example elevation of the main arm, elevation of the upper arm, extension of the telescopic arm and rotation of the turret.
• Two ergonomically designed control stations,
• An LCD screen for setting movement speeds and a “diagnostic aid” tool for ease of maintenance,
• A motor which meets Euro III standards.
Still more...
With a 20 metre working height, the 200 ATJ is a direct response to meet the needs and expectations of construction professionals in the steel erection sector and for all maintenance and servicing work on industrial buildings.
Priority is given to optimising the working zone, with a 12 metre outreach and the ability to work with up to 8 metres overhang at the point of articulation.
The 2.10 metre wide basket with a capacity of 230 kg, the ease with which familiarity with the controls is achieved and the highly ergonomic work station make the 200 ATJ easy to use on all terrains and in all situations.
This latest version complements the 160 ATJ and 180 ATJ. It is still easy to transport; with a weight of only 10 tonnes and “restricted” overall dimensions it therefore contributes to optimisation of logistics costs associated with its transportation.

The VJR vertical platforms series have been enhanced to improve overall performance and efficency.
VJR Series in general
Popular in industrial applications, the 80 VJR and 100 VJR vertical platforms are designed with a vertical telescopic mast to work in a restrited areas, both are equipped with a jib to give 3m30 outreach performance.
The rotary turret makes service and maintenance operations on industrial sites easier to carry out.
Working height of the 80 VJR: 8 metres
Working height of the 100 VJR: 10 metres
New developments...
With a weight of 2,250 kg for the 80 VJR EVOLUTION and only 2,600 kg for the
100 VJR EVOLUTION, these two new vertical mast platforms provide a solution to users’ expectations in terms of ease of transport and of movement.
The decreased weight of the VJR EVOLUTION greatly reduces pressure on the ground, making it easy to use on any industrial terrain. Thanks to the transfer motors fitted to the VJR EVOLUTION range the battery operational period is significantly improved. The results are: improved management and better electrical power consumption.

Manitou Australia, in conjunction with Vanderfield P/L, displayed a Manitou MLT845 120 LSU Maniscopic with a Round Cotton Bale Handler attachment at the Australian Cotton Conference on the Gold Coast in QLD from the 12-14 August. At the Australian Cotton Conference, the handling concept was presented to delegates who gave favorable comments on this system.
The Round Cotton Bale is plastic wrapped on-board the JD harvester and is ejected at the headland. These bales are 2400mm wide, can be up to 2400mm in diameter and weigh up to 2500kg. The Manitou handling system is in the early stage of development and can cut capital costs as it has no need for a boll buggie or module builder.
The Round Cotton Bale Handler is quick hitched to the Manitou and features roller forks which are hydraulically positioned to pick up and carry the bales. The round fork tynes prevent damage to the plastic wrap.
Out of the harvesting season, the Manitou MLT845 120 LSU can be utilised in other on farm applications such as grain, silage and hay handling, along with farm maintenance operations. Hire of Manitou is another option to boost income. The Manitou MLT845 120 LSU has a lift height of 8m and a maximum capacity of 4.5 tonne. It is powered by a 123HP Perkins engine and has load sensing hydraulics for quick precise hydraulic operations.
Manitou Australia featured at AFIA's "National Fodder Conference" in Victoria from the 6th to the 7th of August. Manitou presented a trade show booth where delegates were educated with the latest products and company updates from Manitou's Head Office in France. A strong crowd was drawn to the lawn section at the conference which featured the Manitou MLT 1035 Maniscopic Rough Terrain Forklift.
During the two days, the event was driven by meetings focusing on production, storage, hay and silage. Over the last few years, climate change has had an impact on farming with many producers, contractors, exporters and analyst joining Manitou at the Fodder Industry Conference to find solutions to their production.
